((OOC: Kensei: me·ter2 n. Abbr. m The international standard unit of length, approximately equivalent to 39.37 inches. 10x39.37=393.7 393.7\12=32.8 So in effect your character can move thirty-two point eight feet in nothing flat. Add to that the fact that Kensei has moved 10 meters from Susan, then ten towards Payne, and another 10 away when the sonic attack hit and that leaves use with a grand total of: 98.4ft. in under a minute.
quote:Every speed move puts a big strain on him.
Yet even after fighting a super villain and 'bleeding to death where he stands' this man manages to move 98.4 feet without issue, having to only kneel when he's done to rest. I find this odd since Kensei is an older man and to increase the movements of one's body result in a heightened pulse rate. There's nothing in your sheet to say otherwise and you have even mentioned out and out your fighter's weakened physical state. So not only is he bleeding badly from the wound he received beforehand, his heart is pumping blood at an over increased amount which would cause him to bleed to death all the sooner. To this mix we must add the sheer friction of the air itself against his body when he moves and the fact that there is a jagged hole caused by rifle rounds currently present for the friction to rip and tear at. It would be like a space shuttle having a chip or crack in it's paneling when it was returning to Earth. The speed and friction would rip it to nothing but metal bones in no time, and rifle shots leave more then a crack. Not to mention that I wonder when the last time Kensei ate or slept was? He's rushed around in the building, rushed while attacking Holocaust, and now has rushed a few more times dealing with Payne and Susan. To move a body at that speed requires a ton of energy that is supplied by food and/or sleep. I am seeing a number of posts in which neither is referred to.
quote:However, speed works both ways, the laws of inertia are not circumvented.
This is exactly correct. Though if I am reading a post of yours in the proper fashion Kensei has rushed ten meters (32.8ft.) to his target, adjusted his move to switch across to the other side of Payne, swing his sword, and still alter his position to avoid the sound attack while having no other ill effects then mislanding his blow. The Law of Inertia states that an object at rest stays at rest while an object in motion tends to stay in motion.
quote:Any speed over the speed of sound, which is approximately 343 m/s, 1,087 ft/s, 761 mph or 1,235 km/h in air at sea level, is said to be supersonic.
So in effect Kensei is traveling at a speed of 32. ft. in far less then a second's time. Though his intent might be to alter his course, his frail body would want to keep going at the current speed in a straight line. Following the Law of Inertia the fighter would rip himself to shreds trying to alter course like that, not to mention the stress of the pull on his internal organs such as lungs and heart.
quote:will have around 160 meters between rounds, if they are fired at about 500 m/s,
quote:Any speed over the speed of sound, which is approximately 343 m/s,
So someone traveling at 344 or 345 (all that is needed to meet the definition for super sonic) m/s can dodge a shot traveling at 500 m/s? 'Easily' I believe was a word you used in a post reacting to a shot if I'm not mistaken. So Kensei may easily dodge a round traveling at him faster then he can move? You might counter this question with 'lightning fast reflexes,' but before you do please read this:
quote:'The main stroke travels at about 0.1 c (100 million feet per second)'
One million feet per second. Trying to move a 300 year old limb at that speed without super strength or any form of protection from the force would snap it clean off more effectively then one of Kensei's own swords could do. It would at least skin you down to the bone if nothing else, peeling your skin like an onion petal.
quote:'I can't really do anything, but in that case I would need a few promises from you in return, because it will mean that Kensei bowls over on the street, more or less.)'
Actually Kensei should by all accounts be out and out dead, not still walking around much less rushing into attacks. You would need favors from someone to post that he's still going, not falling over in a street.
quote:Power-related stuff can work out of the blue, defying logic, physics, reality.
Please excuse my brash nature, but wouldn't such a call be up to me to make and not a player? I would like to expand upon this by saying I would also be the one to say exactly how much logic and laws of nature were defied by the power. A perfect example would appear to be what Kensei is doing right now: Kensei though bleeding badly manages to move a total of 98.4 ft. in under a minute's time, alters his course at high speed, can outrun a sound blast and only has to rest from it all. There is nothing in your sheet that I saw about protective gear from friction, a stronger then normal heart, or a super human body aside from speed and motion sense. If a super power excludes things not out and out stated in a character sheet that is my call and mine alone. Since it is clear you want IG actions to reflect reality I will fix Kensei up for you, free of charge. From now on, Kensei will suffer at least moderate injuries if he alters a course at high speed. He cannot do these speed burst more then a few times in a given period due to not only the strain on his frail body but also the exhausting of his nature energies gathered normally from food and sleep. This is taking into account his moving by will alone since the strength of such a thing does not play out the physical effects and payments made by one's body. If he moves that much faster then a normal human though he has a human body, is payment for the action must be that much greater. His motion sense might give him a head's up on what's coming but to use the information you provided with the speed a bullet can travel I do not want to see any more 'easily missed' posts. If Kensei is damaged in some manner yet continues to 'speed' post, I want to see more injuries from this. Effectively at this given moment you could have Kensei rush about as much as you like since the only restrictions are 'a small amount of time'. At the speed you have posted and hinted at there is no reason that you couldn't be in a fight with someone taking a shot at you then go have dinner, pick up your dry cleaning, have a relaxing after meal walk around the park, and still arrive back in time to dodge the shot. All you would have to do would be to travel a 'short period of time,' break for a second, then travel for another 'short period of time'. I review many, many applications but I could have sworn that when I first approved this character he could only move that fast within a 'couple of steps', then for 'short distances'. To make things easier I want 'short time' altered to 'short distance.' By that I mean no more then ten feet maximum, roughly 3 meters. You may move in that distance at a super sonic pace if you like, but I expect you to start honoring your weaknesses a far cry more then 'limping' only to be turned into two ten meter dashes in short order. To quote a line from Futurama:
quote:'The spirit is willing but the flesh is soft and spongy'
So by will alone or not I want to see actual effects happening to Kensei more so then squatting for a breather. I am going to post for Kensei to reflect all of this, and I want you to go with it. Moreover I would very much like it that if you happen to be having a bad day or not you not tell my players what they may or may not do based on their sheets.:P)) IC: Kensei sometimes thought that having god-like talent made he himself into one. His body found itself having to remind him time and again this was not true, and once more it was up to the task as a combined attack of lack of food, sleep, and blood hit the old one. Due to the marks of crimson splattered is heavy amounts on the filthy street the man's skin was whitish and waxy in look, his breathing shallow at best. To lift a pebble let alone himself or his sword would be an act greater then he could manage currently. His will was spent as was his physical form, and it was all he could do to keep his eyes open.. Sweat beaded his brow and he fought to stay off sleep, knowing that if he gave into his want there was little chance he would again wake. He fell from his squatting position into a seated one, his head lolling a bit from side to side. Great and strong of a fighter as he was, Kensei knew he now needed help. ((OOC: OK, all done. This is not to say that falling asleep would automatically kill Kensei, just that it would be something he might think about. Please correct your character sheet to reflect the changes I have outlined and if you want to restore it to how it now reads we may talk about that in a while via email. Again, in the future please do not make judgments on my players and tell them what they may or may not do based on their sheets. Here's a final thought for you:
quote:'Judge not Least you may be judged.'
Oh, and Jay? I have received your email about the request for changes to your sheet and will review it ASAP. Sorry for the backlog. Wayne))

((OOC: Well, I guess this means bye bye then. I am not willing to make those changes.)) Due to the overly high level of torture the old man had put his body through without any form of protection, Kensei died. His old heart simply could not take the toll and the last words of the old fighter to the world was a soft 'thud' as his body hit the ground, the red organ bursting like a over-swelled balloon. His bones were broken, his injury now big enough to cover a full side of his waist. There was no help, no saving him. Kensei the Sword Saint finally begame one for real. ((OOC: Oh yes Kensei, it has to do with the fact that I've known Jay for a while and not that you assumed the right to tell a player what they may or may not do. No where in my actions is it reflected that for some unknown reason your logic, your calls, your game playing is so far better then anyone else's. Even Susan has been scoulded by you more then once and I am sick of it. I have tried and tried to give you headway to grow and mature as a player, but now you refuse to make needed changes and slow down just a bit. You overpowered, you admitted it, that's a no no. It would seem to me that Jay isn't the only one with out of the blue tricks, and just so you know I recieved an email from him for an ability that would indeed allow what he was doing, along with an apology for going that far in a post without having it added. Where is your apology for your actions, for your treatment of others in my game? Now you wish to call me into judgement? There is no room hgere for both your talent and your attitude. Good bye. You may email me in the span of three monthes to talk about this and the possiblity of you rejoining. Until that time I hope you will reflect on your actions and learn to be more mature in the future. I have held off giving you a single warning though I have been watching, and now you would reward my patience with your actions now? No, it will not be allowed. You have shown disrespect to the GM and to your fellow players. You have spent more time writing OOC sections of what they did wrong then any IG posting, and have time and again stuck yourself in front of someone ready for a fight even though you have never once bothered to check your information. Not even in the case of Dragos whom you are so fond of defending though he has never to my knowledge asked for your help. You want it this way then so be it. You are no longer welcomed here, and you may rant all you want I will not listen to this make believe garbage you like to plaster on my site.))

Hello to all who read this. First of all I would like to apologize for the more rough nature of my last post to Kensei. Here I am displeased by his show of temper and I myself do no better. I could blame it on long hours, lack of sleep, and etc. but why bother? I am the GM of this game, I should always keep a cool head and place reason before emotions. Here I am trying to get everyone to trust me and I act like a loon. I understand X's thoughts on the matter and if for any reason he thought I played a part in one upping anyone I would like to state here and for the record that this was not the case. Kensei reviewed another player's character sheet and took it upon himself to say what was and was not allowed while he himself has been addressed on power abuse issues in the past. I reviewed his sheet like he had that of the other player and used facts just as he did. I did not attempt nor want to 'best' him or anything else, simply wanted to put the shoe on the other foot. I would however like to address one thing Kensei said. IF anyone at all in this game ever feels that for whatever reason I might have that I cannot be even in a judgment between your character and that of another I encourage you to contact X instead of myself. I have and will always try to be fair between players but if anyone is worried that I am unable to do that then there is a second recourse to having me address the issue. Cobalt has done a wonderful job handling a SL sticky spot in the game and for that I commend him. I have no doubt that he will be fair and level headed in any event he takes care of. I'm going to leave my more brash post for Kensei up, I'm not going to delete or change it. I am not proud of what I did and if Toff wishes to lower punishment on me for my less then polite words then I fully understand and hold nothing against him for it. But the good as well as the bad must be known of those in charge, and whatever reason led me to post what is above I did it regardless. In fact I am going to spend the next few days thinking about what pushed me to that post and if it would happen again. I cannot very well bring peace to a fire while I'm adding fuel now can I? I know my methods might be dated or a bit odd in viewing but have always trusted myself to act in the best interest of the game. This was not, and I want to make sure that I myself will not do such things again. Again, I am very sorry to all for my less then delicate way of handling this matter and please do not be scared that I will snap on you someday. I would rather resign before I made a habit of such a filthy thing as that. Work calls and rush hour isn't kind at any time. Please say what you will about me if you feel it will bring you peace and I am honestly sorry for the loss of Kensei. He was a well skilled player whose posts were fun to read and full of detail, I'm sure his contributions to this game will be missed. Kensei, if you read this: I know you have moments when you post in an angry fashion and then calm down. Much like I did above actually. If you are willing to calm down and leave your RL issues outside cyber space I will erase the post where you died and reactive your password for the game, but you will have to adjust your character a little. Please email me if you would like to work out the details. Wayne

Something else I think needs to be said: I've been worrying about this a lot since Wayne offered me Co-Modship. The way it came about made me take a look at why I was up in arms, and once I thought about it, I think I leapt before I looked, because I had a feeling that maybe Wayne didn't have the best interest of the game at heart. This made me realize: Wayne is far too often wrongly made out to be the bad guy. THIS NEEDS TO STOP! Kensei's Anonymous post in the Guest Forum leads me to believe that the better part of his attitude toward Wayne was bad blood, held over from whatever. I can't help but wonder if maybe Wayne's reaction was due in part to his exasperation at always having players leap to the worst possible conclusion first. Wayne is here to make the game better, and to help everybody enjoy it. And, since he doesn't have any characters active that I know of, he's not getting any RP out of this himself. That means that 100% of his efforts here are for YOU, the Players. I think we should all think about why he's here, and why we're here, and maybe everybody ought not be so quick to pass judgement.

correccion of the players and ignorement of the shortcomings of his character, this only is of the imperfection from any child of adam and eve, which is all people, and so still i cannot understand why it was such the big fight, and why it was become to kensei's ban. nicholas is friendly! please do not quote his moment of anger, to make me seem to be wrong in my statement. maybe he says something angry one time or three times, maybe someone does not like his comment, but that does not mean i am wrong when i say he is a friendly man. or maybe so if i become angry one time or three times must i receive also the ban? is this the rule: "never be angry, be happy and kind in every minute, or you are kicked out from the game." now i feel angry so this is my number-one. soon i will get the ban, i guess. this seems me very sad. almost i want to quit. nicholas i wish you will forgive the people of this website and please return to our game.

I do not think it is fair to anyone involved to let this stand as-is. It's Pax and Dennis all over again. This game is becoming a slaughterhouse and I would rather delete the entire gameworld than sit back and watch this happen again and again. I think this is what must occur:JAY - Apologize for being argumentative. WAYNE - Reverse the IP ban and email Nicholas (cc me) when it's done. NICHOLAS - Apologize for being argumentative. Return as Kensei or some new character. EVERYONE - Stop nitpicking and start collaborating. I make a continual effort, expending great amounts of time and emotional energy, to maintain an atmosphere of friendliness and mutual support under the M&M domain. My efforts are challenged and thwarted again and again, to a far greater degree in Prodigy than elsewhere, by people who simply cannot say, "Okay, I'm sorry, we can do it your way." Honestly, I don't CARE if the other guy's way doesn't look as good as yours. There comes a point when you simply have to cooperate and play along. It can't always go the way you want it. Often, you must accept the posts as the other players wrote them. But time and again I see people who just can't let go of some trivial point about whether a man can move 98 feet in 60 seconds, or how much some other character knows about trigger pressures. And that leads to the loss (again!) of one of our most talented gamemates. It's just inexcusable. It is some twisted form of pride? It is stubbornness? Is it flat-out unthinking Neanderthal bellicosity? I don't know, and I really don't care. I have no power to force Nicholas to return. It's up to him. But the rest of it--his own apology, and those of Jay and Wayne--should go like this: "I apologize for being argumentative" ... or as Fuega phrased it even better, "Sorry." And then after that just LET IT GO and cease arguing! Is that so tough? Are you not adult enough to say "sorry" for your own parts in this? And believe me, nobody here is blameless! This is a superhero fantasy game. I know there's a rule about realism, but the whole thing is unreal! I know it can be frustrating to try to react within freeform to something that does not make perfect sense in your own perception of the scene. But the last thing I want to see anybody do is start arguing meaningless details in furious, uncivil diatribes. Call them speedbumps, behave graciously and deferentially, and move on. Let's have those apologies, please. Right here in public. -- töff (still unsmilingly anon)

Would everyone please review the definition of the term "deferential," a word I used before. Usually I practice deference to as great a degree as possible. Now I cannot. Matters must proceed as I have described, with no variation. It is time for everyone else to defer to me. It would be very nice if the other term I used, "gracious," would come into play. But I will content myself with the deference for now. I have tried to make it as easy as possible. I cannot accept variations. Apologize, and defer. Do not defend, explain, squirm, hum & haw, bargain, or set terms. Am I unclear anywhere? -- töff (relieved that he doesn't have a frowning pic)

By now, everybody will have been wondering what I've been thinking. I haven't been making you wait on purpose. Honestly, I've been trying to post (and attempt to make good some of the damage done) here for two days now. I would have even posted before the ban was lifted, if I hadn't been at university all the time, and anonyous proxies don't work from there . Now I must say: I am astounded, and put to shame. I am put to shame by töff, Wayne, and everyone who has been supportive. I was ready to let this game go. Well, not anymore. And since I'm still a little flabbergasted I hope you'll forgive my inadequate wording on what is to come: Everyone, I am sorry. About many things. About being a terrible nitpick, and far less than diplomatic in many ooc comments. But I'm not only sorry. I'm also grateful. I've seen a lot of good spirit. We definitely have something here we shouldn't lose. Now in no particular order: Töff: You're the best, there's really nothing more I can say. Without you the world would be a whole lot worse. Yes, the world. It's a pretty small place when you think about it. You DO make a difference. Wayne: My hat is off to you. I was wrong about many things. Even if I had intended leaving the game I should never had said what I said. I am sorry. Jay: I am sorry for being the worst kind of nitpick. I will email you in the next few days. I'm sure we can both gain something here. Deb: Out in the open, sorry for taking the fun out of your game. Please believe me that nothing has been further from my intentions. There is some more in my email, and I hope we can keep up semi-regular contact by email, too. Liss: Your support means VERY much to me. And PLEASE rejoin the Lattice . X: You're a great guy. Need I say more? Drago: Umm.... take me to a hospital quickly.... And finally, I think we must all learn something from this. We're all human beings wrought with faults and inadequacies, I'll name myself first here. But we can overcome them. And the first way of overcoming them is accepting one thing: Bad blood sometimes happens, but it needn't stay. There are ways around it. And usually all it needs is one initial step in the right direction. NOONE should ever be too afraid or too proud to make that one first step. And everyone else should take that step at face value, as the initial offer to make peace and return to friendship. Let's face it, it's not an ideal world. Not all problems can be solved. But they can be worked around. It's only a game, there's always a workaround. And all it takes is for everyone involved (very much me) to get off of their high horse and start talking, in mutual respect. And we will talk. And grow to meet difficult situations with calmer hearts and clearer minds in the future. And even if we fail at that, we'll be sure that we can fight hard, but make up and become better friends afterwards. And in case you're wondering, I actually believe that. Töff, this is just what we talked about last week. It's just that sometimes it takes a third person. For being that third person, thank you.
