Ah, but the point about sheet balance is that in theory, ever character in the game who wants to do this should have a chance of clobbering any other character in the game, without being totally overpowerd, or totally overpowering the other character. In a dice game we would roll, in Prodigy we replace this with cooperative play. But a character who simply IS a lot stronger than another character will find balanced cooperative play much harder than otherwise. You see, basically I could construct a character with the major power of invincibility. No matter what is done he cannot be beaten in combat. Any action against him with hostile intent is automatically refuted. I could probably do a lot of cooperative role-playing with that character, but there would still be the problem that if someone else wants to clobber him he would not get the chance. Hence, sheet balance is void in that case, and that's something I would like to avoid, or at least, limit to very rare cases.

A Major Power idea I had a while ago, which I'd like to bring to the light of day for RP on this forum. Unseen Teleportation, Major power. Within a "cognitive radius" of 25 metres (50 with concentration), Daniel Hammer is capable of teleporting most nonliving objects into his pocket dimension, called Hammerspace, which can store about as much matter at one time as a moderate-sized warehouse. They can then be produced at will. Unseen Sense, Minor power. To compensate for the unseen nature of his power, Daniel also has a clairvoyant sense of things not being viewed. With concentration, this can allow him to find lost objects, or even teleport objects without knowing where they are. As a consequence of this, he knows when he's being actively watched. Major weakness: The core restriction on Daniel's teleportation is its unseen nature. He can only teleport objects which are not being looked at by other cognizant beings (even through means such as live camera feeds), and then he can only produce the objects from space which is similarly not being viewed (ie, reaching behind himself, or into a shadow, or into his pocket to produce something). Medium weakness: Daniel's teleportation is also restricted against use on living and especially cognizant beings. It seems that the power has a particular concept of cognizance, as it can also be shown as not functioning on beings such as self-aware robots, which may not be considered as "living". (In OOC terms, Daniel is incapable of teleporting any characters. Since this means it's impossible to use for travel, I'm hoping this means it satisfies the rule against teleportation.) Minor weakness: Daniel's unseen sense has gaps in any space which is actually being watched. Minor weakness: Daniel's sense of "being watched" does not apply to unmonitored video cameras, or to any non-visual surveillance (e.g., listening devices). What do you think? Should I go with this, rework it a bit and go for it, or come up with a new character?

Anybody familiar with 'the jaunt' it's a short story about space travel by teleportation. You have to be asleep when you do it, because while your body makes the trip in the instant, the mind takes Forever, and you go insane if your awake. So on one hand, if he uses just time, he ages them and they get hurt. On the other hand, if he tries to put an entire person into 'fast forward' they go insane. Add in time having to come from somewhere, as it's a minor power, so he draws it from a petrified shark tooth. And a devotion to life, in all forms, vegetarian even... I've sent in a note to admin via e-mail and will attempt to register the character... IF we can get a name? Anybody have an idea?

Here is an idea I have for a char.... Don't know if it would fly here... and not sure the flaws and powers really balance out that well. But I'm curious what people would think about it.... it's basically a living quantum wavelength ?¿§¿? Would be created in some large high energy explosion that would have some affect on time and space.... it not need happen in the game now and could have happened in the past... at wich point ?¿§¿? would have spent time lost as it ricocheted, rolled, and twitched along through higher dimensions. Rather it was from it's attempts to pull itself together, or by some outside influence, this six dimensional being was slammed into a three dimensional reality taking on the 'form' of a rather rare occurrence: a being that is made up of a full six dimensional wavelength of probability. Due to it's nature it is unable to exist where there is not life of some sort to observe it, and as people observe it, it has form..... it's mind an motive are stable but it's physical state an ability to interact with things is not. Each person observing it will be collapsing a different wavelength of it's limitless nature usually what is most expected by that person. This leaves everyone looking at it seeing something different, though a communal reality could be enforced on it if everyone starts to believe it is the same thing until it leaves there observation. And while it can not exist unless it is observed it is able to instantly pass out of observance and into observance elsewhere by passing through a higher dimension. (so if it moved out of line of sight of anything, then it would move into sight some where else instantly).... ?¿§¿?'s nature, and the very odd circumstances around it's creation, give it the power to affect the fabric of reality sending distortion waves or pulses through it or creating fields of stability, and even unleash entropy causing degradation and decay. It's properties of a unstable waveform also has the tenancy to affect probability and is able to cause (minor for now, though possibly rather strong ones later) temporary shifts in it leading to being able to create some degree of good or bad luck. It is these capabilities it mainly uses to protect itself or engage in combat. However it is capable of producing a staggering wide verity of partials and energy, leaving it a rather simple matter for it to move things with kendic energy or attack something with heat/light/radiation. (simply: it can manipulate energy, including some rather nontraditional energy manipulation such as entropy.) RP powers, flaws, restrictions would be: * A unlimited range of forms it can take (not controllable by ?¿§¿?) * A unlimited range of languages and means of communication (not controllable by ?¿§¿?) * Dose not die from age, though it's age is veritable... should it 'die' by aging it would be outside it's control and would pass into existence/observation some where else. * If no one remembers it and it's not being observed then it exseast to exist until some one remembers it at which point it will imitatively phase into the observance of that person. * It can't go anywhere there is nothing to observe it, and should it kill the only thing observing it, it will not be able to collect loot from that kill as it will instantly move some where else. * It is able to 'teleport' instantly from one place to another as long as it moves out of observance and into a place it is observed. * It's powers become more and more restricted the more people observe it in one manor or another, if it grows to the point many people perceive it as something with no powers then it would take a GRATE effort on it's part to start using any given power (though it would grow more simple if they believe this to be it's action). This esilates to the point if enough people perceive it a serten way it becomes that thing they all perceive it to be. And varying in powers that are possible for it: * It is able to stabilize/destabilize reality on a very minor level (though this takes a LOT out of it) * It is able to produce and manipulate energy, including non typical types of energy like entropic and kendic. * It is able to affect probability in itself and others to some degree. * It is able to store a wide arrange of things inside itself, even if larger than it'self. * It can move freely unaffected by gravity * It is able to move objects by manipulating and creating kinetic energy.

I like this character but I have a couple of concerns.... If I was one to cling to the zero sum rule I think the super powers here need to be reigned in a bit. The usefulness and range of the powers is infinite where the weaknesses are finite and defined. e.g.: What do you mean by an unlimited range of forms? Can you turn into a black hole, atomic bomb, or God? Even if the control is not IC it is still within the player’s control. To make it truly out of your character’s control you could say that any other player can control the form. If you want to impose a restriction, like nothing that would really be harmful (like a brick while you’re swimming in the ocean) than the range of the power has to similarly be curtailed, e.g. nothing that could be harmful to someone else. But that still would not really balance it because its range remains infinite. I think this should be a character quirk power... you can take an unlimited range of forms but none confer any special advantage beyond causing a fright or hiding by turning into something unexpected like a sofa or wiener dog. "It is able to produce and manipulate energy, including non typical types of energy like entropic and kendic." This is another, do anything you want anytime kind of power... I can’t think of anything that could balance this out. "It is able to stabilize/destabilize reality on a very minor level (though this takes a LOT out of it)." Again this needs to be defined. What does destabilize reality mean? Does it mean you can turn the entire planet into soup? Not sure when you would use the stabilize reality power... if it means that you can stop any form of magic than given the sum of your powers that’s a little too much. My suggestion is thus to: 1: make the unlimited forms power just a character quirk, power – take other forms, out of the characters control, but confers no real advantage 2: Axe the produce and manipulate any form of energy power... manipulating and creating kinetic energy is enough 3: Axe the stabilize/destabilize reality power 4: Give some examples of what the extent of your probability manipulation... e.g. wins a coin toss 75% of the time, bullets and things fired and thrown at him are 25% less likely to hit or the weapons are 75% more likely to jam or malfunctions, he almost always gets coverage on his cell phone, etc.... Last suggestion... for a real name Philonous... referencing Three Dialogues between Hylas and Philonous. Hope that helps!
